Western broke three school records and registered six more entries in the MegaStar Meet, as the Western Middle School Boys Track Team took second place in the Regional track meet, while the Girls Team took third place.

The Western Boys finished with 113.5 team points, second only to Ypsilanti Lincoln with 139.  The Western Ladies totaled 91.5 team points, trailing Meads Mill (Dexter) with 122 and Ypsilanti Lincoln with 109.

Darren Greene (8th) broke the Western Middle School record in the High Jump with a leap of 5’11”, winning the event in the process.

Maurice Qualls (8th), Chanddym Stephenson (8th), Greene and Christian Johnson (8th) won the 4x200 Meter Relay with a time of 1:39.18, breaking their own school record set last week at the Saline Relays.

Mariska Brand (7th), Violet Olney (7th), Braelynn Schaffer (8th) and Olivia Sweezey (7th) took fourth in the 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of :54.34, but broke the Western Middle School Record and qualified for MegaStar.

Christian Johnson won the Shot Put with a throw of 43’7.5”.  James Harris (8th) took second place with a toss of 41’10” and Liam Bryant (8th) placed fourth with a distance of 41’0”.

Johnson also took fourth in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of :54.61, and qualified for MegaStar in his third event for the season (Shot Put, 400 Meter Dash, 4x200 Meter Relay).

All four Western Boys Pole Vaulters set personal bests for themselves on the season.  Ethan Robinson (7th) placed second and qualified for MegaStar with a vault of 9’6”.  Derek Boldt (8th) tied Robinson for second place with a vault of 9’6”.  Devin Hill (8th) took third place at 9’6” and Kannon Kelch placed fourth at 9’0”.

The Western Lady Pole Vaulters took first and second place as Ashlyn Darrow (8th) cleared 6’6” to win and Bella Justice (8th) followed up at 6’0”.

Zaviana Jackson (8th) won the Long Jump with a distance of 15’6”.  Julianna Smith (7th) qualified for MegaStar by jumping 14’10.5” and taking third place.

Jackson joined Eden Stahl (7th), Alivia Stahley (8th) and Morgan Smith (8th) to take second place in the 4x800 Meter Relay with a time of 11:28.59.

Emmary Carothers (7th) finished third in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of :27.46, but qualified for MegaStar as well.

Boldt and Qualls did damage in the hurdle races.  Qualls took fifth place in the 200 Meter Hurdles and qualified for MegaStar with a time of :28.49, while Boldt took sixth place at :29.42.

Boldt took fourth place in the 55 Meter Hurdles at :08:78, while Qualls took fifth place at :08.84.

Greene took second place in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of :11.79, a personal best.

Other Panther finishers were as follows:

For the Boys,

Leeland LaRose (8th) finished 8th in the 70 Meter Dash with a time of :09.43.  Hunter Honeycutt (8th) took 10th place with a time of :09.88.

Anthony Hannah (7th) took 11th place in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of :13.43.

David Wright (8th) placed 7th in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of :27.16.  Jacob Kubish (8th) placed 9th with a time of :27.43.

Devin Hill (8th) finished in 10th place in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:01.17.

Kannon Kelch and Ethan Robinson took 12th and 13th places in the 800 Meter Run with times of 2:28.09 and 2:29.41 respectively.

Robinson finished 12th in the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 5:38.52.  Leo Zhang (8th) took 14th place with a time of 6:08.38.

Cormac Heath (8th) landed in 7th place in the 3200 Meter Run with a time of 13:03.86.  Zhang took 8th place at 13:18.49.

Honeycutt, Stephenson, Mason Barber (8th) and Kubish took 4th place in the 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of :50.51.

Hill, Advik Biswal (8th), Kelch and Wesley Nierer (7th) finished in 5th place in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 4:14.25.

Ben Hammond (7th), Nierer, Liam Rivera (7th) and Biswal also finished in 5th place in the 4x800 Meter Relay with a time of 10:04.86.

Dexter Rice (8th) cleared 4’7” to take 10th place in the High Jump.

Barber jumped 16’3.25” to claim 8th place in the Long Jump.  Hannah finished 12th at 14’0”.

For the Panther Ladies,

Schaffer finished in 8th place in the 70 Meter Dash at :09.99.

Schaffer took 9th place in the 100 Meter Dash at :13.93.  Olivia Sweezey placed 10th with a time of :14.00.

Violet Olney took 20th place in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of :30.86.

Karcen Snider (7th) placed 7th in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:06.84.  Alivia Pluta claimed 15th place with a time of 1:11.61.

Jackson ran the 800 Meter Run in 2:53.92 to take 7th place, while Morgan Smith placed 12th with a time of 3:00.08.

Adalynn Newton (7th) finished 4th in the 1600 Meter Run at 6:10.18.  Gabrielle Ultz (7th) landed in 14th place with a time of 7:14.51.

Stahley and Newton went 5th and 6th in the 3200 Meter Run with times of 13:59.08 and 14:28.83 respectively.

Mariska Brand finished 5th in the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of :10.29.  Avery Woodhurst claimed 7th place at :10.46.

Harper Backinger placed 5th in the 200 Meter Hurdles with a time of :34.98.

Addleman, Harper Backinger, Woodhurst and Carothers finished 5th in the 4x200 Meter Relay with a time of 1:58.29.

Stahl, Brand, Pluta and Addleman took 5th place in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 4:43.57.

Tessa Pryor (8th) and Emma Lee (8th) landed in 9th and 12th places in the Shot Put with throws of 24’4” and 21’9”.

Willow Addleman claimed 5th in the High Jump with a cleared height of 4’7”.

Avery Woodhurst took 9th place in the Long Jump with a distance of 14’0”.

Western competes in their final event of the season at the Mid-Michigan MegaStar, hosted by Shepherd, next Thursday.
