The Western Panthers Girls Varsity Soccer season came to a tough end Tuesday night as they fell to Mason 2-1 in double overtime in the District Semifinals.
Western got on the board first when Madison Brandt scored 31:37 into the game to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. The Panthers battled hard and held onto that lead deep into the second half before Mason tied things up in the 73rd minute to send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime, Mason found the back of the net in the 85th minute to pick up the 2-1 win and end Western’s season.
The Panthers spent much of the night defending, as Mason outshot Western 31-6. Aubree Allen kept Western in the game with 17 saves in goal.
Western wraps up the season with a 13-4-2 overall record and a 5-1-0 conference record. This group battled all season long and gave everything they had until the final whistle.
Mason improves to 9-4-4 and will move on to the District Finals against Chelsea High School Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Mason High School.
The result wasn’t what Western hoped for, but this team competed hard all season and represented the program well from start to finish.
