The Western Girls Varsity Soccer team battled the elements Monday night on the road at Dexter High School, with the match ultimately ending early due to severe weather. The game was called just 4 minutes and 57 seconds into the second half, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Western held a slight edge in play, outshooting Dexter 11-8, including 10 shots on goal compared to Dexter’s 5. The Panthers created a handful of solid scoring chances throughout the match but were unable to find the back of the net before the weather brought things to a stop.
Madison Brandt came close to opening the scoring in the first half, hitting a shot off the bottom of the crossbar that stayed out. Lola Berdiner also generated good opportunities, including a shot that forced a tough save from the Dexter goalkeeper, and another that was cleared off the goal line just moments before the match was called for lightning.
Carley Gilbert started in goal for the Panthers in the first half, while Aubree Allen took over to begin the second. Both goalkeepers helped keep the game scoreless.
With the result, Western moves to 7-2-2 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. The Panthers will be back at home Tuesday night for a 6:30 matchup against Holt High School.
