This week the Parma Western Panthers Girls Tennis Team competed in the State Finals at the University of Michigan. The team finished 10th in the state with 8 points which are the 2nd highest for both in school history. One of the highlights from the tournament was 3 doubles of Anna Wilcox and Karly Foster were seeded #5 and beat Edwardburg in the 2nd round, then beat #4 seed East Grand Rapids in the quarterfinals and then lost to the #1 seed Marian with a score of 3-6, 3-6, which is the best finish by any flight in school history. As a result, the Panthers 3 doubles team is the best public school team in that flight and are the first players to be seeded multiple times at the State Finals in Western history. Another highlight was that 4 doubles of Anna Willinger and Silvia Baker were seeded #6 who beat Grand Rapids Catholic Central and ended up losing to #3 seed East Grand Rapids. Other flights who won matches and gained points for the team were 1 singles Dru Porter who beat St. Johns, 4 singles Ellie McCollum who beat Croswell-Lexington and 1 doubles Becca Brushaber & Chehek Bharatiya who beat Hamilton.
Go Panthers!
