Western Varsity vs Marshall ( District Semi-Final)
5/27/25
MARSHALL, MI — A late goal by senior Kaydence Watson propelled the Parma Western Panthers past host Marshall High School 1-0 in a tense girls district semifinal soccer match on Tuesday night.
Watson found the back of the net in the 73rd minute off a nice assist from Claudia Allen, breaking a scoreless deadlock and sending the Panthers to the district final. The clutch finish was enough to secure the victory, thanks in part to a stellar defensive effort led by goalkeeper Bria Frost, who recorded a shutout.
Marshall (10-9-3) applied constant pressure throughout the match, tallying 17 shots, including seven on goal. However, Frost stood tall between the posts, turning away every chance to preserve the clean sheet. Western (12-7-1) registered 11 shots with five on target and edged Marshall in corner kicks, 4-3.
The Panthers' back line, anchored by Frost and standout defender Marina Walz, held firm against Marshall's persistent attack and were both named Defensive Players of the Game. Watson, whose game-winner proved decisive, earned Offensive Player of the Game honors.
With the win, Western advances to the District Final on Friday, where they will face Adrian High School. Adrian (13-4-1) advanced with a dominant 5-1 victory over Jackson Northwest in the other semifinal. Friday's championship match is set for 6:00 p.m. at Marshall High School.
The Panthers will look to avenge an early-season 2-1 loss to Adrian in their fourth game of the year and secure a district title in what promises to be a competitive rematch.
