From the Coach
“We came into this season knowing in some events we’d be stronger than ever before, but we weren’t sure what kind of depth we’d have. This team showed up and performed, as a team.
“Today, we left it all out there. We had some amazing PRs. The 4x800m relay team got under eight minutes and set a new school record, Jayden Willis ran 22.7 in the 200m, Brayden Goldsmith vaulted over 10’-6”…
“We won three out of four relays. We won the 1600m (Edison Lopeman), the 300m hurdles (Titan Parker), the 800m (Ryan Good), and the pole vault (Braden VanCalbergh). We had guys step up and run four events (Jackson Jones, Titan Parker, Michael Brant, William Melton). We had guys step up and run events they hadn’t run before (Josiah Miller in the 3200m, Melton in the 400, immediately before running the 300m hurdles).
“What makes the team state championship special is that everyone’s performance makes a difference. We all work to be our best, together, and as a team.
“We’re built well for a strong finish next week at the MHSAA State Finals. Between now and then we have the Selby Classic on Tuesday. And then on Wednesday and Thursday we’ll sharpen the knives. Friday we’ll head to Hamilton, which is up by Holland, and Saturday we cook.
