The Western Girls Varsity Soccer team kicked off their district tournament run in dominant fashion Thursday night, defeating visiting Jackson High School 9-2 in the opening round.
Fueled by a powerful offensive performance and sharp passing, the Panthers wasted no time setting the tone, with multiple players contributing to the scoreboard. Claudia Allen and Madison Brandt each netted two goals to lead the scoring charge. Brandt also tallied two assists, continuing her all-around impact on the game.
Western’s offensive firepower didn’t stop there. Bella Miles, Jillian Barnes, Lola Berdiner, Nevaeh Hartshorn, and Rayah Hitt each added a goal, showcasing the team's depth and balanced attack. Barnes also provided two assists, while Allen, Emrick Boobyer, Hartshorn, Rachel Thomson, and Hitt each recorded an assist as well.
The Panthers now improve to 11-7-1 on the season and advance to the district semifinal, where they will face the winner of Marshall vs. Coldwater on Tuesday, May 27.
With momentum on their side and a team firing on all cylinders, Western looks poised to make a strong postseason run.
