Western Middle School Boys Track Team Wins Regional, Girls Finish Third
The Western Middle School Boys Track Team scored 131 points to win the Zone 2 Middle School Regional Meet at Ypsilanti Lincoln on Wednesday.
Micah Good, Leland Sowle, Logan Cristian and Josiah Rivera led the Panthers by winning the 4x800 Meter Relay (9:02.06) and scoring points individually.
Micah Good won the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 4:57.35.
Logan Cristian and Josiah Rivera went 1-2 in the 800 Meter Run with times of 2:12.79 and 2:16.46 respectively.
Cristian, Good, Christian Johnson and Kannon Kelch took second in the 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 3:58.20.
Leland Sowle won the 3200 Meter Run with a Personal Best time of 10:36.32. Lucas Johnston also struck a Personal Best at 11:09.71, finishing fourth in the process.
Jett Archer took second place in the 70 Meter Dash (8.77). Archer also scored points for the Panthers with a fifth place finish in the Long Jump (17’3.5”) and a 7th place finish in the 100 Meter Dash (12.44).
Logan Young landed in fourth place in three different events. Young placed fourth in the 100 Meter Dash (12.27), fourth place in the High Jump (5’2”) and fourth place in the Long Jump (17’10.5”).
Wyatt Griswold finished second in the High Jump at 5’2” and earned a trip to MegaStar in the process. Griswold also finished fifth in the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.81.
The 4x200 Meter Relay team of Griswold, Dominique Galloway, Kannon Kelch and Liam Maull finished fifth with a time of 1:49.81.
Derek Boldt placed sixth in the 55 Meter Hurdles with a time of 9.81. Boldt joined Dominique Galloway, Alexander Fausz and Liam Maul to place sixth in the 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 53.94.
Alexander Fausz secured fourth place in the Pole Vault with a height of 7’6”. Fausz also took fifth place in the 200 Meter Hurdles with a time of 30.28. Joel Toyer placed eighth in the 200 Meter Hurdles with a time of 31.81.
James Harris and Christian Johnson both placed in the Shot Put. Harris threw a Personal Best 37’7.5” to take fifth place. Johnson threw 34’11.5” to finish in seventh.
Johnson also finished seventh in the 400 Meter Run with a time of 1:01.74.
Ethan Robinson took sixth place in the Pole Vault with a height of 6’6”.
For the Lady Panthers, some great performances in horrible weather helped Western finish one point back of second in the region with 85 team points.
Madisyn Blair won the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 5:42.98. Blair took second place in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:38.32.
Kylie VanCalbergh won the Pole Vault by clearing 7’6” and then finished fifth in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.70.
Georgia Addleman won the High Jump by clearing 4’6”. Addleman then helped the 4x200 Meter Relay team along with Claire Kuhl, Braelynn Schaffer and Allie Coppernoll finish third with a time of 2:00.80.
Bella Nowery, Mallie Backinger, Braelynn Schaffer and Kylie VanCalbergh finished second in the 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 54.96.
Nowery also took third place in the Pole Vault with a height of 6’6”.
Schaffer finished in fifth place in the 70 Meter Dash with a time of 10.34.
Zaviana Jackson struck a Personal Best in the Long Jump with a distance of 14’6.5” and a third place finish. Jackson ran a 2:46.22 in the 800 Meter Run to finish sixth.
Jackson, Kennedi Baum, Harper Backinger and Mia Zischke combined to run 12:28.04 for a fifth place finish in the 4x800 Meter Run.
Alivia Stahley scored for Western with a sixth place finish in the 1600 Meter Run and a Personal Best 6:15.81.
Claire Kuhl, Harper Backinger, Allie Coppernoll and Madisyn Blair rounded out the day with a sixth place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay (4:53.18).
The Regional Meet ends the season for all Western Middle School Track athletes except for those who qualified for the MegaStar Meet on June 5 in Shepherd.
Ten Western boys and four Western girls qualified for the season-ending meet which features athletes from almost 200 schools in Michigan.
The ten Western boys who qualified for MegaStar are Logan Young, Jett Archer, Logan Cristian, Josiah Rivera, Micah Good, Leland Sowle, Lucas Johnston, Carter O’Connell, Dominique Galloway and Wyatt Griswold.
The four Westen girl qualifiers are Kylie VanCalbergh, Madisyn Blair, Georgia Addleman and Zaviana Jackson.
