In a tune-up for the Regional track meet on Wednesday, the Western Middle School Track Teams competed at the Saline Relays on Monday night.

The highlight of the evening for the Panthers was the Boys 4x800 Meter Relay team of Micah Good, Josiah Rivera, Leland Sowle and Logan Cristian, who won the event, setting a school record and a Saline Relays meet record in the process with a time of 8:52.72.

Sowle also took home a second-place medal in the 800 Meter Run, setting a Personal Record with a time of 2:16.59.

Rivera anchored the Boys Sprint Medley 1200 Meter Relay, teaming with Derek Boldt, Christian Johnson and Kannon Kelch, finishing second with a time of 2:58.23.

Good and Cristian joined forces with Claire Kuhl and Bella Nowery to take fourth place in the Mixed 4x400 Meter Relay with a time of 4:15.34.

Kylie Vancalbergh won the Pole Vault with a height of 8’0”.  Vancalbergh, Braelynn Schaffer, Mallie Backinger and Bella Nowery took third place in the Girls 4x100 Meter Relay with a time of 54.76.

Schaffer, Mallie Backinger, Harper Backinger and Allie Coppernoll placed 5th in the Girls Hornet 800 Meter Relay with a time of 2:09.16.

Maidsyn Blair took second place in the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 5:36.84, a season-best.

The Boys 4x100 Meter Relay team of Jett Archer, Dominique Galloway, Liam Maull and Alexander Fausz took second place with a time of 50.40.

Alexander Fausz also earned a medal for fifth place in the Pole Vault with a height of 7’6”.

Three Western High Jumpers earned medals, as Wyatt Griswold (5’2”), Joel Toyer (5’0”) and Derek Boldt (4’10”) went 3-4-5 in that event.

James Harris and Christian Johnson placed fourth and fifth in the Shot Put with distances of 35’10.5” and 35’0”.

Wyatt Griswold, Derek Boldt, Joel Toyer and Ethan Robinson placed fourth in the 55 Meter Shuttle Hurdle Relay with a time of 38.53.

The Girls Sprint Medley 1200 Meter Relay team of Kennedi Baum, Harper Backinger, Mia Zischke and Allie Coppernoll took home a sixth place medal with a time of 3:27.68.

Western athletes secured 14 Personal Records in individual events on the evening.

The Panthers now turn their attention to the Regional track meet at Ypsilanti Lincoln on Wednesday.
