Western Girls Varsity Soccer Beats Grass Lake 8-0 in Regular Season Finale, Honors Senior Class
The Western High School Girls Varsity Soccer team closed out their regular season in dominant fashion on Monday night with an 8-0 victory over Grass Lake High School. The Panthers wasted no time asserting their control over the match, with the mercy rule taking effect just 10 minutes into the second half.
The scoring started early as Rayah Hitt found the back of the net in the first minute, assisted by Kaydence Watson. Just two minutes later, Grace Hull converted a penalty kick after a Grass Lake handball in the box, giving Western a 2-0 lead. From there, the Panthers never looked back.
Rayah Hitt would finish with two goals on the night, while Claudia Allen, Emma Hackworth, Madison Brandt, Marina Walz, and Nevaeh Hartshorn each added a goal apiece. Assists came from Watson, Walz, Allen, and Bella Miles, showing the team’s depth and strong passing game. Goalkeeper Shelby Vivian earned the clean sheet in net for Western.
The game also served as a special moment for the team to recognize its seven seniors during halftime. Honored were Claudia Allen, Nevaeh Hartshorn, Kaydence Watson, Marina Walz, Bella Miles, Hailey Dodd, and Grace Hull—each of whom has made significant contributions to the program both on and off the field.
With this commanding win, Western wraps up the regular season on a high note and sets its sights on the postseason. The Panthers, seeded #2 in their district, will host Jackson High School in the opening round of district play on Wednesday at the Panther Bowl. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. Top-seeded Adrian High School received a first-round bye.
The Panthers will look to carry their momentum into the playoffs as they aim for a deep postseason run.
