Western Girls Varsity Falls to Harper Creek in Conference Finals
In a tough Conference Finals matchup on Wednesday, the Western girls varsity soccer team fell 0-4 to a strong Harper Creek squad. The loss marks Western’s first defeat in conference play this season, dropping their final conference record to 4-1-1. Harper Creek finished a perfect 6-0-0, securing the title.
Harper Creek outshot Western 17-7, applying consistent pressure throughout the game. Despite the final score, Western showed resilience and defensive grit for much of the match.
The first goal came in the 13th minute, giving Harper a 1-0 lead they held through halftime. The game remained competitive until early in the second half when Harper Creek found their rhythm and netted three goals in a decisive 10-minute span, sealing the victory.
Western goalkeeper Bria Frost stood tall under pressure, registering 11 saves in a standout performance. Shelby Vivian contributed with two additional saves in relief. On the defensive end, Bella Miles was tasked with marking Harper’s top offensive threat and did an admirable job, holding her in check for the majority of the match. Miles’ tenacious effort earned her Defensive Player of the Game honors.
Offensively, Western managed a few promising opportunities. Claudia Allen led the attack with four shots on goal, while Madison Brandt had a solid showing with several good looks and sharp passes in the final third. However, Harper’s goalkeeper proved up to the challenge, denying Western’s best scoring chances.
Despite the loss, Western’s strong conference season and resilient play in the finals show promise heading into the postseason. They will look to bounce back on Friday in a non-conference matchup against Laingsburg, who currently holds a 12-4 record.
With their regular season winding down, Western hopes to use this game as preparation for a deep playoff run.
