JV Baseball wins Western Invite!

On Saturday Western hosted a JV Invite that welcomed Okemos and Lakeview to compete. Both teams have strong baseball programs and it showed all day, every game was competitive.
Game one had the Panther play Okemos. Western took an early lead only to have Okemos come back and tie the game in the 4th inning. Finally in the bottom of the last inning with the game tied at 4, Aaron Chapko doubled scoring Ben Decker for what would be the winning run. Panthers win 5 - 4.
The Panthers out hit Okemos with 8 hits. Elijah and Isaiah Norwood each had 2 hits. Easton Hendrick, Hez Gin along with Chapkos double each had a hit.
Elijah Norwood started on the mound, he struck out 5 and only allowed 1 earned run. Chase Budd came in to close the game and get the win, he struck out 2. The defense gathered 2 double plays led by Chapko and Decker.
Game 2 had the Panthers face a strong Lakewood team. The junior Panthers hit the ball well in game 1 and it continued in game 2. A staunch Lakewood defense held Western to a 2-2 tie until the 7th inning. The Panthers exploded in the top of the inning with 5 hits. Zach White started the inning off with a double, followed by Isaiah Norwood slamming a triple. Western had full momentum and posted 6 runs. The defense shut down Lakewood with a 3 up, 3 down finish closing out a 8-2 win. Isaiah Norwood had 3 hits, Bennet Luke added 2 and White added a single making 2 hits for the game.
Isaiah Norwood who was a beast on the mound for 5 innings, striking out 7 and only 1 earned run.
Chapko came in to complete the game, he faced 6 batters and struck out 4, Incredible job! Final score Western 8, Lakewood 2.
