Both Western Middle School Track Teams defeated Marshall on Monday in a meet that was rescheduled from earlier in the season. The Western Girls defeated Hastings, 89-43, while the Western Boys won by a score of 106-30.
Logan Young won three events to score 15 points for the Panthers. Young cleared 5’2” in the High Jump, and ran a 8.94 and a 25.05 in the 70 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash to round out a perfect day.
For the Lady Panthers, Kylie Vancalbergh cleared 7’ in the Pole Vault and ran a 13.81 and a 28.77 in the 100 Meter Dash and the 200 Meter Dash, en route to 15 points of her own.
Jett Archer won the Long Jump (16’1”), finished second to Young in the 70 Meter Dash (9.00) and finished second in the 100 Meter Dash (12.82), for 11 points on the day.
Madisyn Blair won the 3200 Meter Run (13:22.69) and the 800 Meter Run (2:37.63), then helped the 4X800 Meter Relay team alongside Mia Zischke, Harper Backinger and Zaviana Jackson take first with a time of 12:11.31.
Zaviana Jackson also won the Long Jump with a jump of 14’1” and finished second in the 200 Meter Dash (30.33).
The boys finished 1-2-4 in the Shot Put, led by James Harris who threw 34’9.5”. Christian Johnson and Isaac Craig finished second and fourth with tosses of 34’6.5” and 32’5”.
The Boys and Girls teams both placed high in the Pole Vault. Vancalbergh, Mallie Backinger and Isabella Alvarenga went 1-2-3 for the Lady Panthers, with vaults of 7’0, 5’6 and 5’6. Alexander Fausz cleared 6’6 and Ethan Robinson cleared 6’ to help the Boys finish 1-2.
The Boys and Girls teams also conquered the 4X400 and the 4X200 Relays. The Girls team of Harper Backinger, Allie Coppernoll, Mia Zischke and Alivia Stahley won the 4X400 Relay with a time of 5:03.96. The Girls team of Zacariah Akines, Claire Kuhl, Bella Nowery and Georgia Addleman won the 4X200 Relay with a time of 2:03.07. For the Boys, Micah Good, Lucas Johhston, Christian Johnson and Kannon Kelch finished first in the 4X400 Relay with a time of 4:21.33. The team of Carter O’Connell, Ethan Robinson, Liam Maull and Wyatt Griswold also won the 4X200 Relay with a time of 2:00.10.
Stahley also won the 1600 Meter Run with a time of 6:26.01 while Kennedi Baum finished second at 7:07.22.
Western Boys swept the 3200 Meter Run, led by Leland Sowle with a time of 11:14.35. Logan Cristian finished second at 11:14.59, Leo Zhang took third at 13:39.28, and Dexter Rice finished fourth with a time of 15:06.89.
Western Boys went 1-2 in the 1600 Meter Run, also led by Sowle at 5:16.23. Josiah Rivera finished second with a time of 5:20.41.
Allie Coppernoll and Bella Nowery went 1-2 in the Girls 400 Meter Run with times of 1:09.67 and 1:10.96. Micah Good and Christian Johnson went 1-2 in the Boys 400 Meter Run with times of 57.34 and 1:02.87.
Alexander Fausz (31.12), Kannon Kelch (32.62), Derek Boldt (33.12) and Joel Toyer (33.24) swept the 200 Meter Hurdles for the Boys.
Georgia Addleman and Kiyami Eddy went 1-2 in the Girls High Jump at 4’2” and 4’0”. Young, Wyatt Griswold (5’0”) and Joel Toyer (5’0”) went 1-2-3 in the Boys High Jump.
There were 42 personal best performances achieved by Panther athletes on the day.
Both teams now stand at 3-0 on the season. Western hosts Coldwater and Harper Creek in a double-dual meet on Thursday.
