7th Grade A Girls Basketball Defeats Pennfield

On Wednesday, the girls finished up their lightning quick season by hosting the Panthers of Pennfield. In a physical battle between Panthers, the Panthers of Western came out victorious. Being down three girls due to illness, it took a lot of courage and grit to grind out the win, but the girls found a way to finish on a strong note.
A strong first quarter set the tone for the rest of the game. We finished the first quarter up 8-4 and were leading at halftime 18-12. Due to playing great team defense in the third quarter we were able to extend our lead to 25-14 going into the final quarter. A few quick baskets by Pennfield to start the fourth quarter saw our lead shrink down to 5, but after a basket to end their run and a shift in our defensive mindset Pennfield was only able to muster a couple of free throws over the last 3 minutes of the game.
The girls continued to work hard and improve throughout the season, and I am excited to see their continued growth as they move forward.
