Western Freshman Boys Basketball won the rematch with Pennfield on Thursday, 46-37, ending a 13-game losing streak in the process.
Jayce Thurman took over for the Panthers, racking up 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go with six steals, three rebounds and two assists. Thurman scored seven of his points in the third quarter to break the game open for Western, which finished 3-15 on the year.
Colin Savicke scored 16 points in his best all-around performance of the season. Savicke also cashed in a season-high eight rebounds, two steals, an assist and a blocked shot.
Cam Fullerton worked a clogged Pennfield interior for just two points on the game, but he stuffed the score sheet with five rebounds, four steals, two assists and a blocked shot.
Western forced Pennfield into 34 turnovers on the game and held the Green Panthers to 37 points, Western’s second-best defensive effort of the season.
Knox Archer compiled four points to go with six steals, three assists and one rebound.
Lucas VanRiper worked his defensive magic, helping keep Pennfield ball-handlers out of the paint. VanRiper scored three points to go with three steals and a blocked shot.
Bennett Schultz scored two points and had a steal in a solid defensive effort.
Nolan Robinson collected two rebounds.
Broyden Cole found two rebounds and dished an assist.
Connor Wrozek also worked as a defensive catalyst and scored two points to go with two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.
Carson Orchard pulled down an offensive rebound.
Western avenged a three-point loss at Pennfield on January 16, 2025, where a Colin Savicke three-point attempt rattled out at the buzzer. Western finished 2-9 in I8 Conference play.
