Freshman Girls Battled Vicksburg
Freshman Girls Battled Vicksburg

Last night our lady panthers took on Vicksburg at home. We felt as though we had a few good shooting practices under our belt for us to be able to come out as an offensive threat on the court. We always play aggressive defense, and we have been working on running the court whenever we get the chance. These were our goals prior to playing this game. We started off doing all of these things, except for being an offensive threat. We worked our way around their zone defense for the remainder of the game. Free throws got us 2 points and we were up 2-0 in the first quarter. In the second quarter we continued to run our play and get inside looks, but just could not make many shots. We ended the second quarter down 6-7. Our goal at half time was to stick to our original plan and become a threat on offense while keeping our aggressive defense and trying to run a drop play in our offense to get around the zone. We went out looking to score and had many attempts at the basket. We attempted our new play and it was not as successful as we had hoped due to some skill/spacial issues on our team's part. We ended the third quarter 9-12. Deciding to put on a press in the last quarter really helped our team get the ball back and make more opportunities for ourselves, but our shots were not falling and our rebounding was unsuccessful on the put back. We lost to Vicksburg in the end 10-16. Suzanne St. John scored 8 points, Carley Gilbert scored 3, and Veronica Allen and Sylvia Bivens both scored 1.It was a good fight, but with patience and accurate shooting we may have been able to come out on top. Thank you to all who came out to support us, we will see you next week! Go Panthers!
