Western JV Lady Panthers took on much improved, cross town rival,  Northwest Mounties on Thursday night in the Den.

In the first quarter, we AGAIN started slow where we scored an eye popping 2 points.  The good news is our 1-3-1 zone helped keep us even by letting them score 2 as well, a  pitcher’s duel.   A’Keirra Sanders led the team with a great steal and finish at the other end.   We tied the first quarter 2-2

The second quarter was a little better offensively.  We got a few more good shots where MadDog, Madi Redovich scored 4 and  Ellie Hackworth had another 4.  Shelby Smith made 1 for 2 from the line to even out the scoring.  Ellie Hackworth and Jill Barnes gave great effort with their on ball defense.   We won the quarter 9-7 and led at half 11-9.

The third quarter brought more balanced scoring.  Shelby Smith, A’Kierra Sanders and Madi Redovich all scored 2 with Ava Buckland adding a free throw.  We tighten down and rebounded well to hold the Mounties to 3 points.  We won the quarter 7-3.

In the fourth quarter, Madi Redovich told the girls, “I got this” (if you know Madi, you know that is a lie).  Madi was aggressive drawing fouls and converting at the line 3-4.  Madi also scored another basket.  I kept telling the girls to rebound.  Ellie Hackworth worked relentlessly hitting the glass giving us more possessions when we were struggling on offense.  Maycee also scored a big jump shot to round out the scoring.  Imari Hicks made an incredible screen to free up her teammate for a score. We won the quarter 7-4.  

Final score 25-16.  

We are currently 7-4 and 5-0 in the conference.
