Last night we travelled to Laingsburg on our day off to take on the Wolves. We went into this game coming off of a huge stint of no basketball so we took this as an opportunity to get ourselves back in the game and work on running through our plays and getting shots up on this team. This JV team was very skilled and they played with a level of sophistication that is found in most JV teams, but our Freshman girls did not falter. They played with grit, perseverance, and joy as we continued to score, look for opportunities, and work together as a team in the second quarter. The other coaches at Laingsburg commended our girls for their poise and ability to make a tough game like this fun and enjoyable, as that is what basketball is all about. We were unable to score in the first quarter, but with slight adjustments to our offense we gained some points ending the second quarter 6-26. At the half our goals were to make quicker and more accurate inside passes, look for our open players, dribble all the way past half court, and use each other to score. We did just that in the second half which gave us a lot more confidence on what we could do with the ball on offense. In the third quarter we had a score of 12-37. In the fourth quarter, we really showed our skills and our lockdown defense as we continued to raise our score and by stopping theres from growing. We ended the game with a loss of 26-40, but made a serious comeback in points as many different players saw open opportunities for them to shoot and score. Suzanne St. John had 10 points, Sylvia Bivens had 7 points, Veronica Allen had 4, Carley Gilbert shot a buzzer beater 3, and Addison Yanovich had 2 points. It was a collective effort! Thank you to all who came out to support us! Come out and see us play next week as we take on Vicksburg at home, Thursday at 4:00pm. Go Panthers!
