Freshman Girls Basketball Battled Dewitt
Freshman Girls Basketball Battled Dewitt

Last night our panthers took on Dewitt at home for the first time this season. Even though we had never played them, we knew this was going to be a tough game for us, as their basketball program is normally very skilled. We went into this game knowing we were going to have to work hard every second of the game for our team to be successful. We started off the first quarter with strong defense and a determination to get past their press and score on any fast breaks we can. We ended the first quarter down 2-12. In the second quarter we were able to get more and more shot opportunities up and helped ourselves create those opportunities down low after taking initiative and driving into the paint on our offense. We ended the second quarter 8-18. At the half our goals were to take shots, have better communication on the court and make more accurate passes. We started the third quarter wanting to get past half court so that we could run our plays. Not only were we able to do this more, but we started to look for our open players so that they could take shots. We ended the third 10-37. We kept pushing and working towards our goals in the last quarter of the game. Sylvia Bivens and Addison Yanovich really stepped up by communicating on the court and did what we were aiming to do at the half. We worked on accurate passing and successfully accomplished almost all of our goalest to the fullest. Even though Dewitt had better basketball skills, our team had better mental toughness and perseverance throughout the entire game. We ended the game 20-47. No matter the loss, our girls ran their butts off and played their hearts out. Tori WIelenga scored 2 points, Sylvia Bivens scored 4 points, and Suzanne St. John scored 14 points for our team. Congratulate them for their efforts and come support us next week on Wednesday at Laingsburg High School. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us. We look forward to seeing you all again soon! Go Panthers!
