On Saturday 1/11, 6 of the 19 pantHER gymnasts plowed through the snow to compete at the Lowell “Salute to Honor” invitational.
The patriotic invitational started with the members of the Lowell high school gymnastics team escorting friends and family in the military, who’ve served or are currently serving our country, onto the competition floor. As the the crowd stood during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner, the honorees presence magnified the significance of our country’s anthem.
The meaningful start to the invitational set the tone for the rest of the day as the panthers prepared for the uneven bars. Freshman Brynn Miller made her uneven bar debut, and Taylor Paquin, Sophie Robinson, and Hannah whiting all landed regional Scores. Hannah Whiting also placed 3rd with her score of 8.525.
Next was the Balance beam where Jayna Zenker stuck her routine and received a regional score and Brynn Miller PR’d and received her 2nd regional score!
Inspired by the qualifying scores, Taylor Paquin made her senior debut on the floor exercise receiving a regional qualifying score on her first floor routine of the year! Following suit with the regional scores was Laurel, and Jayna who both PR’d with an 8.125, Hannah Whiting and Sophie Robinson also received regional qualifying scores with Sophie Placing 6th with and 8.45!
The pantHER’s energy was high from their success on the floor exercise, so they carried the momentum to their final event: Vault. Like floor, All 5 competitors received a regional qualifying score!!Jayna Zenker PR’d with an 8.25! Taylor Paquin made her vault debut with an 8.525. Hannah Whiting Placed 8th with an 8.725 (tied her PR) Sophie Robinson placed 7th with an 8.75, and Brynn Miller PR’d with an 8.775 placing 6th!
With only 5 gymnasts on each event, these 6 panthers (Brynn, Laurel, Jayna, Hanna W, Sophie, and Taylor) claimed their 4th and final team qualifying score for regionals! They placed fourth over all with a 126.1! These 6 young women are ready to rally the rest of the pantHER teammates to keep working hard and watch these scores continue to climb.
The PantHERs remain undefeated in the SCGL conference and are hosting their next conference meet this Thursday, January 16th at 6pm, against the Saline Hornets! Come watch these young women as they cheer each other on and attempt to remain undefeated!!!!
