Updated on 11/15/2024

On Friday the Western cross country varsity teams traveled to DeWitt for their regional meet and ran out of their minds.

The boys entered the race ranked 6th but finished 2nd and secured a second straight trip to the MHSAA Finals at MIS next Saturday as a team. Edison Lopeman once again broke his own school record by running 15:26 against strong competition. Ryan Good dropped 30 seconds off his personal best by running 15:54 and placing 4th. The rest of the team included Isaac Fullerton (27th, 17:24 - lifetime best), Caleb Lynd (24th, 14:41 - lifetime best), Roan VanSumeran (41st, 17:53), Titan Parker (62nd, 18:30 - season best), and Evan Craddock (80th, 19:06 - lifetime best).

The senior dominant girls placed 7th after being ranked 9th and continued with the gutsy performances. Bertha Quiroga dropped an entire minute off her previous best time by placing 19th in 20:17. Natalie Kuhl (34th, 21:09 - lifetime best), Bridget Fullerton (35th, 21:10 - lifetime best), Raquel Curey (36th, 21:17), Marina Walz (40th, 21:36 - season best), Hailey Dodd (58th, 22:02 - lifetime best), and Bella Stoetzel (71st, 22:38) rounded out the scoring.

These teams have run with heart and toughness all season long and have represented Western well. We are proud of them and all they have accomplished.
