Last night our Western Volleyball teams all participated in a Tri at home against Williamston and Vicksburg, both teams we don't normally play in our season. Seeing great competition during warmups, and being able to watch the two play each other before our game, I was excited to see our girls play against both teams.
We played Williamston in the first game and with a consistent fight, perfect passes, and great communication on the court we were able to take a win against them in the first game. We beat them in a close race for set one (25-23) and again in the second set (25-22). We won that game with great serves, amazing hits, and positivity on the court and on the bench. With two players out, we were still able to get the job done and look forward to taking on the second team of the night.
In the second game, our players may have underestimated the skill of Vicksburg, but continued to fight during the first set to try to get a win against them. We lacked in the front row for attacks and blocks this game which really hurt us in points. We also did not have as many aces as we normally do because of the skill level on the other side of the net. We lost the first set 19-25. We tried to keep ourselves up and positive about taking the second set, but after seeing that they were down at the beginning of the second set, they were unable to come out of that rut, even with our encouragement and constant reassurance. It was a mental game against Vicksburg, and we lost to them once again in the second set 10-25. We took a minute to talk about the things we can change for ourselves on the court to become more mentally tough, to come together as a team in situations like this, and we are excited to use these tactics against Pennfield next week. Come out and support us next week on Wednesday as we take on the other panthers from Pennfield. Thank you to everyone who came out to our game and have supported us from the beginning. Go Panthers!
