High School Cross Country Recaps!
Updated on 11/15/2024

It has been a busy week for our boys and girls cross country teams with three meets in the past eight days.

On Saturday, September 28th we traveled north to DeWitt to compete on the same course we'll be returning to for regionals. Boys placed 4th out of 13 teams. Edison Lopeman won the race and in the process broke a decades old Western HS 5K record in 15:33. Medalists include Ryan Good (7th 16:28), and Isaac Fullerton (29th 17:49). Natalie Kuhl (20th, 21:19) and Marina Walz (28th, 22:03) medaled for the girls.

Tuesday, October 1st was an exciting day at Turkeyville where the second I8 Jamboree was being held. The boys ran strong and finished second behind Marshall by only 8 points. The girls ran a thrilling race where they tied with Marshall and then won the meet based on senior Hailey Dodd beating Marshall's 6th place runner.

Saturday, October 5th Portage hosted the largest cross country meet in Michigan with over 170 schools competing throughout the day. Our boys placed 18th out of 41 schools with Edison Lopeman again breaking the school record (3rd, 15:29) and Ryan Good medaling (45th, 16:41). Girls placed 28th out of 43 schools.

All runners have been improving over the season with 40 out of the 63 running either a lifetime best or season best during these past three races. Full results can be found on athletic.net
