Middle School Boys Cross Country
Parkside Invitational at Ella Sharp Park, 9/26/2024
Logan Cristian ran a 10:42.6 to break the Western Middle School record and finish second in the 8th Grade race at the Parkside Invitational on Thursday. Leland Sowle finished third with a time of 11:08.7, Josiah Rivera finished 6th with a time of 11:43.26 and Landon Koch ran a 11:47.7 to finish 8th. The four combined for 19 team points to lead the Panthers to an 8th Grade First Place Team finish. All four also took home top-20 finish medals.
Ben Greenslade ran a 12:50.5 to lead the Panther 7th Graders to a 7th Grade First Place Team finish with 22 team points. Greenslade finished in 3rd place in the 7th Grade race, followed by Leo Zhang (13:14.5, 7th place), Jacob Kubish (13:27.7, 8th place) and Cormac Heath (13:37.5, 11th place).
The Western 6th Grade team also took home a First Place trophy, claiming the 6th Grade First Place Team title. Quentin Woods led the Panthers by finishing in 7th place with a time of 14:05.3. Titus Clanton took 10th place with a time of 14:23.5, Liam Rivera finished in 14th with a time of 14:47.9, and Benjamin Hammond rounded out the Panther scoring in 15th place with a time of 14:48.8. The 6th Grade Team won the meet with 34 team points. All four took home top-20 finish medals.
All 31 Western runners finished the race in a field of 238 participants.
William McCormick returned to action and finished 33rd in the 8th Grade race with a time of 13:41.4. Sawyer Macomber finished 34th (13:42.6), Griffin Baker finished 40th (13:54.3), Brayden Watts finished 71st (15:44.4), Logan Newton finished 73rd (15:48.9) and Elliot Lopeman finished 88th (21:44.5) to round out the 8th Grade race.
CJ Gringas (18th, 14:23.2), Dexter Rice (41st, 16:20.8), Nicolas Shaw (45th, 16:49.7), Jack O’Dowd (46th, 16:49.9) and Ronan Brown (49th, 17:02.2) all finished in the top 50 in the 7th Grade race. Greenslade, Zhang, Kubish, Heath and Gingras all brought home top-20 medals as well. Colten Frederick (17:13.98) took 52nd, Ethan Gienapp (17:15.3) finished 53rd, and Aydan Garcia (25:18.6) finished 73rd.
Evan Paksi (15:36.4) finished in 30th place in the 6th Grade race, followed by Xavier Flores (15:41.1) in 33rd, Nathan Bowser (17:02.1) in 45th, Bradley Mattis (17:23.5) in 49th and Lennon Shelton (19:06.1) in 60th.
The Western Middle School Boys Cross Country Team runs again at the I8 Jamboree in Marshall on Tuesday.
Middle School Girls Cross Country
Parkside Invitational at Ella Sharp Park, 9/26/2024
Madisyn Blair won the 8th Grade Girls race at the Parkside Invitational on Thursday with a time of 12:09.2 to lead the Lady Panther 8th Graders to a 2nd place team finish. Ella Hammond finished 8th with a time of 13:54.0 and landed a top-20 finish medal. Phoebe Gin finished 21st with a time of 15:12.4, and Alanah Daly finished in 37th with a time of 19:02.7 to round out the scoring for the 8th Grade girls. The team ended with 67 total points and the 2nd place team trophy.
Mackenzie Greenslade won the 6th Grade Girls race with a time of 13:35.3, and Laila Rotich finished 3rd with a time of 14:12.5 to help the Lady Panthers earn a First Place Team finish. Katelee Carothers finished 7th with a time of 14:42.0 and Alivia Pluta finished 10th with a time of 14:55.9 to round out the scoring for Western. All four earned top-20 medals, as well as Adalynn Newton (14th, 15:29.1), Morgan Brandt (17th, 15:52.1) and Alexys Blair (18th, 15:53.2).
Alivia Stahley finished 6th in the 7th Grade Girls race with a time of 13:33.7 to earn a top-20 medal. Phoebe Miller finished 26th with a time of 16:26.3.
All 20 Lady Panther runners finished the race in a field of 175 runners.
Brooke Ennis finished in 21st place in the 6th Grade girls race with a time of 16:06.1, landing just outside the top-20. Jules Smith (30th, 16:42.8), Adelyn Breneman (32nd, 16:45.3), Emma Decker (33rd, 16:49.0), and Tessa Wyman (46th, 18:09.5) all had top-50 finishes. Ava Dawson finished 63rd with a time of 20:04.4a and Laynie Sawyer finished 68th with a time of 21:57.0.
The Middle School Girls Cross Country team travels to Marshall for the I8 Jamboree on Tuesday.
