The Western Panthers 8th grade football team played host to the Northwest Mounties on Wednesday night, and ran away with a 38-18 victory. Northwest was a solid opponent and pushed the Panthers around early in the game, but the Mounties were not able to stop the Panthers once we got going.
Logan Young paced the Panthers with 319 yards rushing and 5 TDs. Young was joined in the scoring column by Dom Galloway who plowed in a 2 yard score. Carter O'Connell ran in a 2-point conversion and was a major force on defense for the Panthers. Daltin Sands and Jett Archer were all over the field on defense and each had a fine run to help out. Ethan Harris led the Panthers from his QB spot and hit Edan Mast with an excellent pass.
While Young did the major work on the ground, he would not be able to get loose without the up front blocking of Dawsyn Baker, Isaac Craig, Chace Forcier, Landon Brenizer and Hudson Hayworth. The big fellas did a great job springing the runners all night.
Western's record improves to 1-2 with the win and they will host the Harper Creek Beavers on October 2nd. Game time is 15 minutes after the conclusion of the 7th grade game that begins at 4:30pm.
