High School Cross Country Competes at Lakeview

After a summer of diligent training the boys and girls cross country teams finally got to race Saturday at the Lakeview Invite. As the smallest school in the large school division the varsity boys team of Edison Lopeman (2nd, 15:45), Ryan Good (12th, 16:45), Isaac Fullerton (17:43), Caleb Lynd (17:59), William Melton (18:12), Braiden Renfer (19:27), and Breslin Sharp (19:54) finished 3rd overall. Edison and Ryan both ran strong, confident races while bringing home medals. Caleb ran the fastest 5K of his high school career. All three ran over 500 miles this past summer.
The varsity girls team of Raquel Curey (27th, 20:52), Natalie Kuhl (21:37), Bridget Fullerton (21:39), Bertha Quiroga (21:41), Marina Walz (22:07), Bella Stoetzel (22:37), and Hailey Dodd (22:58) is led by five veteran seniors. Raquel medaled, Bridget excelled in her first high school race, and Bertha ran a lifetime PR.
In the JV races, freshman Roan VanSumeren medaled by placing 5th in 18:12. Trevin Warner also medaled (25th, 19:29). The JV girls were led by medalists Lillian Coppernoll (19th, 23:11), Amelia Lynd (23rd, 23:38), and Lanie Syrek (24th, 23:44).
Both teams will compete at the first I8 Jamboree this Tuesday.
