Over the weekend our Lady Panthers played in the Chelsea tournament. Being our first tournament we weren’t sure what to expect from the teams or the atmosphere. We went in ready to play. We took a loss right off the bat to Howell and took another loss to Skyline, both in pool play. We were placed into the silver bracket where we took the win over Huron and lost to Skyline again in the final game for the Silver bracket winner. The girls now know what to expect and were ready to use their untapped grit to take them into this new week of volleyball.
Tonight our girls travelled to Tecumseh for a quad. The first team we played was Lumen Christi and we came out strong and loud to take on the titans. We ended up taking them in two sets (25-20 & 25-19) where Laklee Ojeda had 16 serves and 7 aces. Ryleigh Wellman had 2 kills and Peyton Miskowski had 6.
The second team we played was Northwest and we were excited to take on the Mounties for the first time this season. With lots of energy and drive, we came out strong and powerful in the first half of the set leading heavily with 8 serves and 5 aces from Laklee Ojeda and 9 serves and 6 aces from Chloey Berkeypile. We let the Mounties have way too many point but ended with a win in both sets with a 25-17 score. Kate Wojton, Mia Manor and Ryleigh Wellman all had a kill against Northwest.
The third team we played was Tecumseh on their home court. After taking two wins already we were eager to chase a third. We started off loud with lots of energy hoping to use this opportunity to play a great team and see if we could snag another win. We played at another level against the Tecumseh team and looked like a whole new team out there on the court. We fell short in the first set 20-25, but held our heads high. In the second set we were determined to keep fighting and worked our tails off to do so. Laklee and Ryleigh had two amazing kills, and Addisyn Yanovich had 9 serves and 4 aces. We gave it our all and lost the second set 22-25 in the last game of the day.
Come cheer on our Freshman Girls this Wednesday against Marshall at home! Go Panthers!
