Gymnastics Takes 2nd at Conference Meet!

On Thursday evening the Western Panthers hosted the South Central Gymnastics League conference championship. 6 teams in the league with 12 schools represented! Jackson Area Gymnastics is home to gymnasts from Jackson High,Lumen Christi, Northwest, Grass Lake and Napoleon. Tecumseh also has a co-op with Columbia Central, Clinton, and Manchester. The Jackson Area Gymnastics team (also the MHSAA runner up champions) took first place and with just a few points behind Western Panthers took Second place! Here were the team scores-

Teams:

1st: Jackson Area Gymnastics 136.2

2nd: Western High School 130.075

3rd:Tecumseh 128.825

4th:Adrian 128.2

5th: Saline 123

6th: Coldwater 118.975

The gym was packed with talent as there were several All-State gymnasts competing. Western kept up with their competitors, landing several spots on the Podium!

On Vault: Sophie Robinson took 8th place with 8.525. On Bars: Hannah Whiting took 4th place with an 8.2. Beam: Sophie Robinson PR’d and took 5th place with 8.4,

Kasyn Saari took 8th place with 8.1 and Hannah Whiting took 9th place with an 8.075.  On Floor: Taylor Paquin took 3rd place with a PR of 9.025 there was a tie for 8th place with Kara Boyer and Sophie Robinson receiving an 8.6! For the All Around Hannah Whiting took 6th place with 32.975, 7th place went to Sophie Robinson’s PR of 32.825, and Taylor Paquin took 10th place with 32.35.

The gymnasts have worked hard for their achievements as they have balanced school, work, and a social life outside of gymnastics. Even though they are busy, the team managed to have an overall team GPA of 3.522 with 10 of our gymnasts being recognized as All Conference Academic! Those gymnasts are:

There were several personal bests and several received regional qualifying scores. The energy was high and the Gymnasts are pumped with motivation. They continue their success on Wednesday 2/21 in East Lansing, and Thursday 2/22 with the Jackson Area Gymnastics team honoring all the Jackson County Gymnastics Alumni at 5:30 pm!
