Western JV volleyball traveled to Quincy Saturday and battled for nearly 10 hours in a hot gym bringing home 2nd place out of 12 teams. Western started their day with a split against Galesburg Augusta 25-16 and 15-25. In pool play Western also took wins against Concord ( 25-11, 25-4) and Hillsdale Academy B ( 25-17, 25-10). Western was ranked 2nd overall going into bracket play. Our first game in bracket play was against Jackson High. This is where we really started to come alive. The energy was high on the court and it showed in our play. Western won in two sets 25-12 and 25-15. We faced Grass Lake next in the semi finals. After a strong fight, the Panthers lost the first set 23-25. We did not let this stop us. After regrouping , Western was aggressive at the net and maintained a strong defense. The Panthers won set two 25-20 and continued to win set three 15-7 sending us to the finals. These were the two best sets our team has played this year. We had big energy, massive swings at the net, great communication and movement on defense. However, after a short break it was hard to return after such an emotional win. Western struggled against Hillsdale Academy A in the finals. Western lost the first set 11-25 and the second set 16-25 giving us a 2nd place finish. So much to be proud of for the day! The Panthers will take on Coldwater Wednesday for their second conference match of the season.
